Hi, I'm Amy.
I work with people to create spaces of healing and personal transformation, honoring the courage it takes to make a change.
I'm a licensed psychotherapist providing virtual therapy sessions to individuals in New York state. My work is motivated by the belief that exploring and attending to past wounds can allow us to meet our present experience with acceptance and move forward from a place of wholeness and authenticity.
I approach our work as an evolving creative collaboration that centers safety, trust, and connection. I look forward to exploring how your unique experiences have shaped your hopes, needs, and goals.
-
Do you do therapy virtually or in-person?At this time, I see clients virtually using SimplePractice, a HIPAA-compliant video platform.
-
How do I make an appointment? Please contact me directly to schedule a free 15-minute consultation, with any questions about my practice, or to discuss fees or sliding scale options.
-
What are your fees?I am an out-of-network provider and work on a sliding scale. My standard rate for individuals is $185. I have a fixed number of sliding scale spots for new clients who do not have the capacity to pay my standard rate. I encourage those who are within the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC/PGM communities to apply. I am not in-network with any insurance providers. I accept out-of-network benefits from all insurance plans. If you have out-of-network coverage, I can provide you with a superbill (insurance receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement, depending on your insurance plan's allowances. I do not fill out insurance claim forms or interact directly with insurance companies, but I can help you figure out your out-of-network benefits. Payment is due at the end of each session. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance to avoid a charge.
-
What should I expect during our consultation?During our 15-minute video or phone consultation, we will get a sense of your needs and reasons for seeking therapy. You can ask me any questions about my approach and experience. This consultation is free of charge, and there is no commitment to continue. If you decide to move forward, we will schedule a 50-minute initial appointment. This will be a paid therapy session where you will have the opportunity to experience what it might be like to work together and how best to move forward. If things feel aligned and we are a good fit, we will schedule a weekly session time.

How do I check my out-of-network benefits?I can help you check your out-of-network (OON) benefits—we can do this during a free consultation call. You may also contact your insurance company directly, by calling the customer support number on your insurance card or reviewing your insurance plan's Summary of Benefits through your online member account. Be sure to ask the following questions: Does my plan include mental health benefits, and do I need preauthorization to access those benefits? Out-of-network deductible (the amount you have to pay before you are eligible for reimbursement): What is the OON deductible under my plan, and how much of it—if any—has been paid? When does my deductible reset (this typically happens every January)? Coinsurance: What percentage of the session fee will be my responsibility once my deductible has been met? (For example, if your coinsurance is 25% and the session fee is $200, you will only be responsible for paying $50. You will pay the $200 up front, then your insurance will pay you $150 after the session, once you've met the deductible and submitted a claim to your insurance company). What is your insurance company's 'allowed amount' or 'usual and customary rate' for CPT code 90834? Some insurance companies determine a maximum amount on the session fee that they'll cover. (For example, if the allowed amount is $160 per session, at a 25% coinsurance rate, your insurance company will only reimburse you up to $120, regardless of your session fee. If your session fee is $200, you will pay $200 up front, get reimbursed $120, and will ultimately be responsible for $80.) Is there a limit to the number of sessions my plan will cover?
-
What forms of payment do you accept?I accept online payments with debit, credit, or FSA/HSA card through SimplePractice's secure platform.
-
What is the typical length of therapy?Sessions are once a week for 50 minutes. While some exceptions can be made, I typically do not offer biweekly sessions, as research shows that weekly psychotherapy is the most effective and stable way to engage. The duration of your treatment will depend on your needs, life circumstances, and preferences. While some clients find short-term therapy (3–6 months) adequate in addressing a less complicated issue, others find long-term therapy (1 year or more) to be most effective. Some clients benefit from consistent support from a therapist even when they have no specific problem or issue to address.
-
What if my goals for therapy change over time?I want to hear about them! Your self determination is a priority to me, and I welcome the opportunity to discuss any changes you'd like to make in your therapeutic goals or the way we work together. As humans, our needs may shift as we grow, and I'm dedicated to being responsive to your changing needs.
